The target group for this course is personnel working in an environment that could be considered a confined space or that has similar hazards. 

The aim of this course is to provide all course candidates with a firm understanding of the current legislation regarding confined space entry and safe work in a confined space. This includes being able to identify the types of confined spaces and their hazards, and having the ability to enter a confined space and apply the safe and correct procedures for entry into, working within, and executing emergency procedures for confined space operations.

This training is designed for personnel who are, or could be, working in an environment that could become contaminated by gases, including hydrogen sulphide. 

The objectives of the training are to ensure that delegates gain the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of H₂S and other gases encountered at work, and that they take the appropriate emergency response actions.

The course is aimed at personnel who will be involved in carrying out Task Risk Assessments or even those who require a basic awareness of the principles of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment in the workplace.

A risk assessment, used correctly, is a highly effective problem solving tool for line-management that not only identifies the risks to people, but also to equipment, materials, facilities and business economics. Additionally, the core principles of general risk assessments are common to COSHH, DSE, manual handling, confined spaces, and environmental damage.

The initial training is designed to equip delegates with the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to use breathing apparatus safely in an emergency. It explains why breathing apparatus is worn, and educates delegates on donning, doffing and care procedures, so in an emergency situation they can wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) with confidence.
